IMF Consultation with CSO on Governance Reforms
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
On Friday, June 19, I sent to the IMF all the documents then posted on this website, along with anything else I could find, including several key websites—all so the team of IMF staff writing the Board paper on Options for IMF Governance Reform could have timely access to the best input from civil society on IMF Governance.
The next deadline if Friday, July 10 when we need to submit our own concept paper (maximum recommended length of 5 pages, single-spaced) that the Board will receive along with the staff paper.
I will write the concept paper based on what has been set by email or posted on this website by Sunday night, July 5. I plan to have a draft to circulate to you on Monday July 6, with time for feedback; I will revise it on Thursday, July 9 and the final version will be posted here on July 10 even as it is sent to the IMF.
For your information, New Rules interacts on a weekly basis with External Relations (Jeremy Mark and Silvia Zucchini are the principal contacts); we deal with two additional staff for web and email issues. The people writing the Board paper are in SPR (Strategy, Policy and Review), formerly PDR (Policy Development and Review). They are focusing on the recommendations of the Manuel Commission. The actual Board discussion will be July 22.
Please plan to contact your Executive Director to talk about what you regard as most important for reforming IMF governance--or simply to call their attention to the CSO input. As possible we will be meeting in person with several Executive Directors to share CSO proposals with them.
We are beginning the process of scheduling 5 video-conferences, which can include more than one location. The focal points we are currently working on are: Indonesia/India; East Africa/Anglophone Africa (Kenya, Uganda, Ghana); Francophone Africa (Senegal); Latin America/Caribbean; and Central Asia/Mongolia (Kyrgyzstan). Stay tuned to this site for specific times, dates, and locations.
Thanks to all who have participated to date—and to all who will participate soon! Your input is essential!!
Warmly,
Jo Marie
